Speaking as a guy, I know... but I personally would not do it, nor would I want my wife/girlfriend/mistress/one-night-stand to do it. But - I do not wish to force my morals on others. What's right in my mind may not be right in someone else's mind. That's why I'm pro-choice. Let the woman/couple decide. It's not my decision to make. And there's the argument about illegal...and unsafe...abortions. Avoid that by keeping it legal. And cases of a sick child that will not grow up normal or healthy. It might be more humane to terminate than force a miserable existence. Lots of variables. That's why you can't just stamp it as "immoral" or "illegal" and expect everyone to adhere to the moral code as prescribed by law...secular, theological or otherwise. |

i am against abortion in many cases, but im not going to force my morals (as the above poster said) on other people. i do think that there should be education available to women (not indoctronation by anti abortionists) who are thinking about having one. and i think that late term abortion should only be done under the most dire situations. i would be for a cut off peroid that a women has to decide by maybe the 2nd trimester? i think there is a middle to be had, but not with extermists on both sides barking the loudest. |

This is a total can of worms subject. Since women carry (at risk of health) and for the most part, care for these babies. Since women often end up impoverished after divorce and struggling to raise children alone, ultimately, it is women whose feelings on abortion are the more valid. |

I don't think I could have one. On the other hand. I am past childbearing years now. If I was to find out I was expecting, I'd be very upset. I am in no position to raise a child. I am raising my teenaged grandson alone, which is the hardest t hing I've been called on to do. I can understand the reasons why some women choose not to carry on with early pregnancies. |

I think that an answer to that question can only be reached if you first ask then answer the question, "when does life begin"? Once that question is answered, then I think most current laws supercede opinions on morality. A can of worms it is... |

It is the truth, Minimus. I do not want to see the USA go backwards and make abortions illegal. |

I agree with you about not changing the law but according to the Law, it was a life. |

Only God knows if abortion is murder. By definition of the potential human life involved, I personally would feel I had murdered that potential life. I would feel I had deprived a person of the chance to live. But I am not God. I don't know when the tissue becomes a child. I don't know if God can give that potential life to another developing baby or not. |

Well since about 50 percent of fertized eggs naturally fail to implant I would say yeah it's up to god. |

On the Mosaic Law: you have to believe God was truly the author of it to believe it sets any precedence. |

is it murder? Yes or no? A simple "yes or no" answer is not possible IMO. For example the primary mechanism of some contraceptive pills - the "mini pill" allows fertilisation but prevents implantation. The IUD device works in a similar way. I do not beleive this is morally wrong. Similarily the "morning after pill" will cause an embryo to abort at a very early stage of development. At some stage between this and full-term I have a moral objection to abortion. For me it has to do with the consciousness of the fetus and its viability for independent life. Please don't think I have thought this through thoroughly but I am willing to discuss it and listen to other's thoughts. My only certainty at this stage is that rules based on religious dogma don't interest me. |

I say the same thing about the prostitutes I kill, sometimes. Maybe it's "murder," maybe it's not. I certainly don't want it outlawed; every time I kill one, it is certainly is a tragedy of sorts, the elimination of potential life, but if you inderstood my compulsion, you wouldn't judge. |

The problem with your example, Sulla, is that you compare clumps of cells with a fully grown human being. We can't say at what point the soul enters the picture. Only God knows if it is at conception or if it is later.

Sulla, that was funny. If you question that the Law came from God, you might want to question "God" too. |
